Dr. Wang Zhen
Clarinet/Piano Instructor
Dr. Zhen Wang is a distinguished clarinetist and educator holding a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Clarinet Performance from Boston University. She currently serves on the faculty at Tarrant County College, where she instructs Applied Clarinet and fundamental piano courses.
A virtuoso performer, Dr. Wang has secured victories in multiple prestigious competitions. She was named the winner of both the Boston University Soloists’ Competition and the Boston University at Carnegie Hall Competition, distinguishing herself as the first clarinetist in history to win this honor open to all instrumentalists.
Dr. Wang performs frequently with various regional ensembles, most notably the Boston Civic Symphony Orchestra, one of the city's most historic orchestras. Her performance career has taken her to some of the world’s most renowned stages, including Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, and Beijing’s National Centre for the Performing Arts. Furthermore, her versatility is highlighted through engagements with world-class organizations, such as the Boston Ballet, Celebrity Series of Boston, and National Geographic Live.
In recognition of her academic and artistic excellence, Dr. Wang was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society, the nation’s premier music honor society. She was also the recipient of the Brass, Winds, and Percussion Department Award, an exclusive honor reserved for the university's top-performing doctoral students.
Beyond her primary expertise, Dr. Wang possesses over 15 years of professional piano training. She brings this dual-instrumental perspective to the Music Academy, offering students a comprehensive approach to musicality, technique, and performance confidence.
