Griffin Jones

Cello Instructor

Griffin Jones is a cellist and dedicated music educator currently pursuing a degree in Cello Performance at the University of North Texas, where she studies with renowned cellist Horacio Contreras. Originally from Greenville, South Carolina, Griffin has received extensive training at some of the nation’s most respected arts institutions, developing both technical excellence and a deep love for musical expression.

Griffin’s musical journey includes studies at the Fine Arts Center, the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities under Robert O’Brien, and Interlochen Arts Academy, where she completed her junior and senior years under the guidance of Dr. Patrick Owen. While at Interlochen, she had the extraordinary opportunity to travel to New York City and perform at Lincoln Center alongside the New York Philharmonic. A passionate chamber musician, Griffin has attended the Castleman Quartet Program for many sessions since 2023, performing major works such as Brahms’ A Minor Quartet and Dvořák’s C Major Quartet No. 11. In 2025, she competed in the BTHVN Wien Competition with her cello ensemble, The Contrevic Cello Duo, earning finalist placement.

Although Griffin began her musical training as a classical vocalist, she discovered the cello in sixth grade and quickly found it to be her true voice. She has been teaching since 2024 and is deeply committed to helping students grow not only as musicians, but as individuals. Her teaching philosophy centers on the belief that music can truly change lives—by fostering confidence, emotional expression, and a lifelong love of learning. Griffin strives to create a supportive and inspiring studio environment where students feel empowered to express themselves through the cello and develop a genuine passion for music.
